Dr Sukumar Devotta, Former Director, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) during 2003-2008. On 1st August 2003, he has assumed office as the Director, NEERI. He has served and continues to serve in many prestigious National & International Committees e.g. Supreme Court Monitoring Committee (SCMC) on Hazardous Waste, DST Task Force on Green Chemistry, GoI Steering Committee on Montreal Protocol, UNEP Technical Option Committee, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), World Bank Ozone Operations Research Grouop (OORG), WHO, and International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR). He was a member of Board of Directors of Kudremukh Iron Ore Co. Ltd. (KIOCL) during 2006-9 and is currently in the Board of Directors of Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd (HOCL). Dr. Devotta also co-authored a highly acclaimed book ?Thermodynamic Design Data for Heat Pump Systems? published by Pergamon Press, Oxford, UK (1982) as well as some more Books, Monograph and Chapters in international reference books. He has also published more then hundred and fifty papers mostly in International journals of repute. He was also the Regional Editor for Applied Thermal Engineering, and Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Refrigeration, published by Elsevier, UK, which are highly reputed international journals.

Dr. Devotta also received the citations from IPCC, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as well as from the Prime Minister of India. As an appreciation for the technical and scientific leadership in Ozone Layer Protection, he was awarded the prestigious United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) "Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award" for 1997 and received commendation letters from the Executive Director of UNEP, Nairobi. Dr. Devotta has traveled widely on various deputations to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxumbourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, U.K., U.S.A.
